Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
