Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Response

The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
