Former Doctor Accused of Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors report that a former physician stands accused of performing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
A senior prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges follow what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.
The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.
Breakdown of Offences
The charging documents said the 45 charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
Police are urging anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
