Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I declared I won't manage a different club on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so I might decide down the line, who knows. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, however, dining out with the players talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward was killed in a car crash with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
