Squad Evaluations: England Win Secured by Kane's Brace in International Qualifying Match
Throughout a commanding performance, England clinched one more triumph against their opponents, featuring several squad members delivering notable displays during the match.
Starting Lineup
Dean Henderson Was rarely tested to make before the break but then forced to intervene by Arbër Hoxha’s curling effort. One well-timed sliding challenge on an Albanian attacker demonstrated excellent reading of the game. 6/10
The debutant Challenged against the opposition's primary attacker in Hoxha. Operated more centrally to begin with then shifted out wide after a teammate was introduced. 7
John Stones Pushed into midfield when in possession, as he has done in the past. At times lacked urgency in possession with the approach discontinued by the interval. Six
Dan Burn Always dangerous at set pieces, typically, but may be an alternative to his teammate in the backline instead of his partner. One wayward ball later in the match almost led to an opener for the visitors. Six
Nico O’Reilly Another confident showing by the rising star after his first cap versus another side. A teammate did not capitalize on full advantage of a clever backheel over their defense. The role is firmly his already. Seven
Adam Wharton A debut start in an England shirt. Somewhat careless in possession though his inswinging set-pieces caused problems. A handy pace-controller for the manager to utilize against sides that sit back. Shown a yellow for a poorly timed challenge. 6
The midfielder Deliveries on corner kicks and free kicks were dangerous. Enjoyed freedom to move down the left flank yet found himself in an offside position as the pass came in front of goal. Granted a deserved break on the hour mark. Six
Jude Bellingham Functioned in a forward position out wide and also did plenty of dirty work. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance and scuffed a shot over. Withdrawn towards the end by a teammate, a fellow player, after receiving a caution. 7/10
The winger Had the team's best chance in the opening period, his effort well saved from the Albanian keeper. As a teammate hanging back, he had to offer an outlet out wide although his balls into the box were inconsistent. Replaced for the final quarter-hour. Six
The captain The decisive figure with his two more strikes in an England shirt. The opener a typical close-range tap-in and the second a superb headed goal having drifted away off his defender. At 32, he continues to improve with the national team stand a real opportunity in future competitions when he's in the team. Eight
Eberechi Eze Struggled to make an impact on the left flank. Was presented with a good opening after being played in by Bellingham but the keeper denied him. His replacement produced a bigger influence in his place. 5
Bench Players
- Foden (replacing Rice on 63 minutes) Looked lively and combined well with the striker in a natural spot, 6
- Saka (for the winger at the 63-minute mark) Failed to convert but his corner created the breakthrough, Six
- Rashford (for the attacker with 15 left) Lively when brought on assisting Kane’s second via an excellent ball to the back post, Seven
- Anderson (on for the midfielder in the 75th minute) Seems settled so soon, Six
- Rogers (replacing the star with minutes remaining) Too brief a spell to influence the game, 6/10
