The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
