The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Change Follows Mixed Response
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined direction.
Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the complete content from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The belief in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After some time of talks, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most popular series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David

He previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Vision
The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a public demo. Initially, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description explains. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."
The game does not have an official release date or consoles, but fans can expect additional details as creation continues.
