The visionary game developer, the mind behind the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in California aged 55.

His passing was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, a game studio which he helped establish.

The influential video game developer died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a motorway in LA on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his family and friends, his loved ones, and all those touched by his work," a representative from Electronic Arts stated.
