An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia was terminated days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff discovered the passenger was missing.

A large-scale hunt discovered her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" banning any new passengers from getting on the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

The vessel initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Passengers on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of money to join the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of trekking or underwater exploration.

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the ship left the location after an scheduled outing without my mother".
